About us
We are a grassroots organization.
Ridgefield Resistance began in May 2025 as a grassroots effort to protect democracy and resist the autocratic policies of the Trump administration. To strengthen this local work, we later joined with Indivisible, becoming an offical chapter. We are committed to the freedom and independence of the press, the judiciary and the Department of Justice. We believe in governing under the constitution and the laws of the United States. We hold a special commitment to the Bill of Rights and emphasize our allegiance to the First Amendment, which states that, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

RR has no geographic boundaries. We welcome everybody who supports our mission. The name honors the legacy of Ridgefield's role in the revolutionary war and recognizes that the origins of the group were in Ridgefield, CT.
A group of Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and other citizens concerned about the future of our country.
Our Mission
Protecting and preserving American democracy.
Our Stance
We are non-partisan in our mission, meaning we judge candidates based on
their commitment to
democratic principles.
In the current political climate,
as the Republican party
broadly aligns with an
authoritarian movement, we support Democratic candidates
to defend our institutions.
Who We Are
Our principles
I. Upholding Constitutional Integrity
1. On Birthright Citizenship Principle: Guarantee of birthright citizenship as specified in the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution.
Violation: President Trump attempted to end this guarantee by executive order constitutes a direct violation of this constitutional principle.
2. On Free Speech and the Press Principle: Commitment to the First Amendment, which protects freedom of speech and the press from government retaliation.
Violation: Actions taken by President Trump, such as using federal agencies like the FTC or FCC to launch politically motivated investigations into media companies or repeatedly suing news organizations to stifle critical coverage, are violations of this principle.
3. On Emoluments and Corruption Principle: A president and their administration must remain free from financial entanglements that violate the Emoluments Clauses of the Constitution.
Violation: President Trump retention of businesses that accepted payments from foreign governments while he was in office constitutes a violation of this constitutional prohibition.
II. The Proper Use of Executive Power
4. On the Abuse of Power Principle: The executive branch must not abuse its power for personal or political ends.
Violation: Actions taken by President Trump, such as offering pardons to those convicted for their roles in the January 6th insurrection, revoking the security clearances of critics for political retribution, and coercing private businesses or universities with threats of investigation, are clear abuses of executive power.
5. On the Politicization of Justice Principle: The Department of Justice must operate with independence and integrity.
Violation: President Trump's directives to the Justice Department to investigate and prosecute his specific political adversaries are a flagrant abuse of power and a violation of this principle.
6. On a Non-Partisan Government Principle: The federal civil service must remain non-partisan and that government resources must not be used for political campaigning.
Violation: President Trump's policy of purging career civil servants to install political loyalists and his use of government officials to engage in partisan attacks in violation of the Hatch Act are actions that corrupt this principle
III. Adherence to the Rule of Law
7. On Independent Oversight Principle: The necessity of independent oversight to ensure government accountability.
Violation: President Trump's politically motivated firing of multiple Inspectors General and senior FBI and Justice Department officials to impede investigations is a direct assault on the rule of law.
8. On Due Process Principle: Commitment to the Fifth Amendment's guarantee of due process.
Violation: The use of unidentified federal agents by the Trump administration to detain individuals off the street is a violation of this fundamental right.
9. On Humane Treatment Principle: All individuals under U.S. jurisdiction must be treated humanely.
Violation: The Trump administration's policy of holding people in inhumane conditions or threatening to send them to foreign prisons known for human rights abuses is a violation of this principle.
10. On Public Health and Science Principle: Our nation's scientific and public health institutions must be supported to protect the general welfare.
Violation: President Trump's arbitrary slashing of budgets for the NIH and CDC and his cancellation of existing scientific grants for political purposes are a dereliction of that duty.
